A UNIVERSITY THAT ANTICIPATES AND RESPONDS TO THE CHALLENGES OF TOMORROW<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Today, almost 60% of the world\u2019s population lives less than 100\u202fkm from a coast. By definition, this particular zone is the first to be threatened by climate transition and rising sea levels. This situation calls for solutions to be devised in a wide range of disciplinary fields, with the aim of durably protecting life in anthropized areas, as well as supporting public policies with a view to bringing \u201cscience and society\u201d closer together. This is why La Rochelle Universit\u00e9 has chosen to <\/span>focus its research on \u201cSmart Urban Coastal Sustainability\u201d (LUDI)<\/span><\/b>, to address the challenges of sustainable development in coastal areas.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As an actor in the societal transitions needed to contribute to a sustainable and responsible world, the university wishes to put its expertise at the service of this ecological transition.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This distinctive feature is built on an inclusive approach, bringing together all the <\/span>institution\u2019s research strengths around a common societal challenge<\/span><\/b>. This focus aims to address these global scientific challenges from a variety of angles, using disciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

RESOURCES FOR SHARED AMBITIONS<\/h2>\n

Since September 2021, this policy is reflected in the organisation of the university, with the creation of the\u00a0LUDI Institute<\/a>, bringing together all the research units, the masters degrees (with the exception of masters of Law) and the doctoral school.<\/p>\n

This process of specialisation has taken on an <\/span><\/span>international dimension<\/span><\/span><\/strong> thanks to La Rochelle Universit\u00e9<\/span>\u2019<\/span>s leading role in the <\/span><\/span>European university EU-CONEXUS<\/span><\/span><\/a>, which brings together nine partner institutions in Europe to tackle this issue, all <\/span>located<\/span> in coastal areas.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/4″][vc_single_image image=”44866″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”3\/4″][vc_column_text]As a winner of the PIA4 \u201cExcellence in all its forms\u201d programme<\/a><\/span><\/span>,<\/a> La Rochelle Universit\u00e9 aims to attract new talent over the next few years by <\/span><\/span>creating a European centre of excellence for smart urban coastal <\/span>sustainability<\/span><\/span>, supported by major programmes and chairs of excellence. Th<\/span>anks to<\/span> a new form of governance, shared with local and international socio-economic actors, new projects and tools should <\/span>see the light of day<\/span>. A decision-support system will provide support, analyses and impact simulations based on the latest scientific developments in the field of smart urban coastal sustainability and its network of observatories.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]As part of the <\/span><\/span>ExcelLR<\/span> project<\/span><\/span><\/a>, the <\/span><\/span>creation of a centre for the dissemination of scientific culture<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, the <\/span>\u201c<\/span>Science & Society <\/span>Comm<\/span>\u2019<\/span>On<\/span> Lab<\/span>\u201d<\/span>,<\/span> will also support the development of the university<\/span>\u2019<\/span>s projects. This centre, designed in partnership with the <\/span><\/span>La Rochelle conurbation authority<\/span><\/span>, <\/span>will offer activities combining arts and sciences, teaching demonstrations and scientific experiments accessible throughout the region.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
