What is a carbon footprint?<\/h3>\n

The carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases generated over a year by an organisation\u2019s activities.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”10px”][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

The University’s carbon footprint : main results<\/h2>\n

[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”3\/5″][vc_column_text css=””]La Rochelle Universit\u00e9\u2019s overall emissions<\/strong> in 2019, when considering all its activities (scopes 1 to 3), amounted to 11 902<\/span><\/strong> tonnes of CO2 equivalent (C02e).<\/p>\n

Action plan<\/h2>\n

The action plan aiming to reduce the university\u2019s carbon emissions was approved by the La Rochelle Universit\u00e9 Board of Directors in September 2022. It sets out short-, medium- and long-term actions to be taken in relation to the university\u2019s various emission sources.<\/p>\n

A number of measures have been taken to ensure that energy and climate issues are understood by everyone:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • A first training course led by the Climate fresk<\/strong> has been set up for the President\u2019s team, the General Management of Services and the heads of the university\u2019s departments. Training in ecological transition for all members of staff will gradually be introduced;<\/li>\n
  • A training module on the ecological transition<\/strong> for students is also being set up as part of the TRANSFERES project;<\/li>\n
  • Finally, each research laboratory<\/strong> attached to the university is expected to assess its own carbon footprint and take up these issues in order to draw up an action plan at its own level.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Measures to reduce the carbon footprint have been adopted, including:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • Reducing the number of business trips and encouraging people to use the train<\/strong>;<\/li>\n
    • Raising awareness of sustainable mobility in everyday life;<\/li>\n
    • Reducing the carbon footprint of public purchases<\/strong>, particularly with regard to digital responsibility and contracts generating significant greenhouse gas emissions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
