The Unesco Chair launch symposium<\/strong><\/a> will take place from 28 to 30 April 2026 <\/strong>!<\/p>\n

[\/vc_message][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/5″][vc_single_image image=”75503″ img_size=”medium” css=””][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”4\/5″][vc_column_text css=””]In 2025, La Rochelle Universit\u00e9 was awarded a UNESCO Chair in Ocean and Sustainable Coastline<\/strong>, as part of the UNESCO\/Unitwin<\/a> programme\u00a0 and in the context of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development<\/a> (2021\u20132030). This chair is in line with the University’s commitment to open, responsible and committed science in the heart of coastal territories.<\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

The objectives of the UNESCO Chair “Ocean and Sustainable Coastline”<\/h2>\n

Supported by an interdisciplinary team and open to the international community, the chair’s mission is to:[\/vc_column_text][vc_toggle title=”1. Improving the resilience of coastal communities to marine hazards” color=”blue” size=”lg” css=””]Development of a public decision-making support model based on vulnerability trajectories in French territories (metropolitan and overseas), Africa, and Asia. This project is supported by the ExcelLR<\/a> investment program for the future (2026\u20132029).[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”2. Generating and disseminating interdisciplinary oceanic knowledge” color=”blue” size=”lg” css=””]<\/p>\n

Creation of an open science portal on the ocean system, integrating oceanographic data, monitoring of marine mammal populations, and marine pollution in polar environments.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The UNESCO Chair in Sustainable Oceans and Coastal Areas relies on the Urban & Coastal Lab La Rochelle (UCLR) platform to disseminate and promote research products in accordance with the principles of open science. Publications resulting from certified projects are deposited on HAL, and research products (data, models, tools) are referenced and accessible via the institutional catalog<\/a>, ensuring their visibility, sustainability, and reuse.[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”3. Contribute to the implementation and respect of the principles of climate and environmental justice in coastal and marine areas most exposed to marine risks” color=”blue” size=”lg” css=””][\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”4.
