TRYING OUT NEW TEACHING METHODS La Rochelle Université > University > Our Vision > TRYING OUT NEW TEACHING METHODS Published on 13 January 2023 - updated on 23 April 2024 Since 2018, the university has been developing a range of new, diversified and personalised training programmes, to ensure that students receive a degree that matches as closely as possible the realities of the social and economic world. INDIVIDUALISED MANAGEMENT AND PERSONALISATION OF LEARNING PATHS Thanks in particular to its OpenCV project, La Rochelle Université offers a range of courses combining majors and minors, giving each student the opportunity to enrich their studies and explore new disciplinary or career fields, in addition to their main field of interest. The aim is to diversify skills and enhance the adaptability of our students, to meet the demands of a flexible job market. To achieve this, the university relies in particular on the flexible nature of hybrid teaching. It offers courses on demand, adapted to students’ profiles and projects. This training is combined with personalised support to ensure the success of an increasingly diverse student population. The training offer also includes excellence and intensive pathways, combined with active teaching methods. BOOSTING ATTRACTIVENESS THROUGH SPECIALISED PATHWAYS Thanks to the development of specialised courses, La Rochelle Université’s training offer is also designed for anyone wishing to pursue lifelong learning, particularly in subjects relating to smart urban coastal sustainability. As a result, the university provides training for public and private actors working in coastal areas, offering research-based expertise to help define public policies on these issues. In addition, through the ExcelLR project, we are planning to create a European doctoral school on smart urban coastal sustainability, which will be integrated into the LUDI Institute and will coordinate all the master’s and doctoral programmes focusing on this subject. Making higher education more accessible to everyone In addition to the personalised pathways offered to students, the new model that La Rochelle Université intends to create also capitalises on the potential of digital technology. As the 2021 winner of the PIA4 call for projects for digital demonstrators for higher education (DemoEs), the institution plans to develop the Smart CODE project over the next three years to make the university accessible anywhere and at any time. Classrooms will be transformed into “Smart Rooms”, enabling both face-to-face and online learning, while guaranteeing the quality of the learning experience. Courses, content and learning resources will be immediately and constantly available, regardless of where or when the learner is connected. The approach will also be complemented by academic guidance for high school and university students who are considering their career options. Finally, the President’s office has a global vision and a strategy that links success and quality of life. As part of this inclusive project, we support student involvement and promote cultural, sporting and linguistic activities. Two key facilities illustrate this ambition: the Cultural Centre – Student Centre and the many sports facilities of the SUAPSE. Thanks to a dedicated team, student association initiatives are also encouraged, with a view to developing professional skills linked to project management, reinforcing autonomy and stimulating campus life.
