A pioneer in environmental awareness since the 1970s, La Rochelle is a veritable laboratory of urban ecology. Strongly rooted in this culture of territory, the University trains experts in Sustainable Development and Environmental Science and its Research is centred on the Smart Sustainable Urban Coast.

La Rochelle has teaching programmes for all levels, from the DUT to PhD, which are anchored in high-quality research.

Modern infrastructure in the heart of the city

La Rochelle University is equipped with modern buildings and state-of-the-art equipment. The Maison de l’Etudiant (Student’s Union), the cultural heart of the University, was inaugurated in 2013 and organises artistic and cultural activities throughout the year. The University Sports Department (SUAPSE) has two gymnasiums, including a new Sports Hall that opened at the end of 2017.

The quality of life of la Rochelle has been rewarded with various prizes. In 2017-2018, according to a ranking by the magazine “L’Etudiant’, La Rochelle University won 1stprize in the category of medium-sized university towns “where it is good to study”.
