Stanford ranking : professors and researchers from La Rochelle Université in the “World’s Top 2% Scientist”

La Rochelle Université > News > Stanford ranking : professors and researchers from La Rochelle Université in the “World’s Top 2% Scientist”

Published on 20 June 2022- updated on 26 October 2023

Stanford University recently published its annual list of the top 2% of scientists. 13 professors and researchers are recognised for their work and are among the top 2% of the most influential scientists.

La Rochelle Université professor and researchers recognised for their work

This recognition places La Rochelle Université on the world map of research excellence in biology, information and communication technologies, enabling and strategic technologies and earth and environmental sciences. It is a great source of pride for the LUDI Institute.

Biology

Photo de henri weimerskirch

Henri Weimerskirch, Director of Research – CNRS Silver Medal at the CEBC is recognised for his work in ecology. He is a specialist in the study of the impact of global changes on marine ecosystems, using seabirds as bio-indicators.

photo yves cherel

Yves Cherel, CNRS Research Director at CEBC, is recognised for his work in marine biology and hydrobiology. He is a specialist in the feeding strategies of marine birds and mammals in the Southern Ocean.

photo christophe guinet

Christophe Guinet, CNRS Research Director at the CEBC is recognised for his work in marine biology and hydrobiology. His research focuses on marine mammals as bioindicators of the polar oceans.

Photo vincent bretagnolle

Vincent Bretagnolle, CNRS Research Director at CEBC, is known for his work in ecology and more specifically for his analysis of the consequences of various components of global change on the spatial and temporal dynamics of animal and plant populations and communities that make up food webs in intensive agricultural environments.

Photo olivier chastel

Olivier Chastel, CNRS Research Director at the CEBC, is known for his work in behavioural science and comparative psychology. He specialises in the study of the relationships between contaminants, hormonal mechanisms and selective value (reproduction, survival).

Photo christophe barbraud

Christophe Barbraud, CNRS Research Director at the CEBC, is known for his work in ecology. His research aims to model the effects of environmental and climatic variations on seabird populations in the Southern Ocean in order to understand the mechanisms by which these variations affect their demographic parameters (survival, reproduction).

Information & Communication Technologies

Photo thierry bouwmans

Thierry Bouwmans, Associate professor at the MIA laboratory is known for his work in artificial intelligence and image analysis. He is a specialist in the detection of moving objects in difficult environments on the surface (ground and sea), in the air and in space, using mathematical and machine learning tools for foreground/background separation.

Enabling & Strategic Technologies

photo xavier feaugas

Xavier Feaugas, Professor at LaSIE laboratory, is known for his work on materials. His research interests lie in the area of physical bases of solid plasticity and crack initiation with a focus on interactions between plasticity and surface reactivity to understand the inception of hydrogen embrittlement (HE) and SCC.

Photo philippe refait

Philippe Refait, Professor at LaSIE laboratory, is known for his work on materials. He is a specialist in the corrosion of steels in natural environments and particularly in aggressive environments (marine) and also works on cathodic protection.

photo F.pedraza

Fernando Pedraza Diaz, Professor at LaSIE laboratory, is recognised for his work on materials. He is a specialist in coatings, protection against oxidation and corrosion and the thermodynamic, physicochemical and structural analysis of materials.

Engineering

Photo Emilio

Emilio Bastidas-Arteaga, University Professor at LaSIE is recognized for his work in civil engineering. The main objective of his research is to contribute to the improvement of the robustness and adaptability of infrastructure systems under real exposure conditions, including progressive deterioration, sudden events and climate change.

Earth & Environmental Sciences

Photo Xavier Bertin

Xavier Bertin is a CNRS research director at the LIENSs laboratory, and is recognized for his work in oceanography. His work concerns the hydro-sedimentary dynamics of coastal areas, with a particular interest in extreme events and associated hazards (erosion and marine submersion). To study these phenomena, he combines in situ observation with the development and application of numerical models.

photo paco bustamante

Paco Bustamante, Professor at LIENSs laboratory, senior member of the Institut Universitaire de France (class of 2017), is recognised for his work in Environmental Sciences. Specialist in ecotoxicology, his research focuses on the bioaccumulation and detoxification of metallic and pollutants in marine organisms that he uses as bioindicators of chemical contamination

The Stanford ranking

Stanford University publishes an annual list of the top 2% of scientists. This ranking, considered the most prestigious in the world, is based on bibliometric information contained in the Scopus database and includes more than 160,000 of the more than 8 million scientists considered active worldwide, with 22 scientific fields and 176 sub-fields considered.

The database was created to provide up-to-date analysis and a public database of top scientists. The databases and updated code are available for free on Mendeley. Stanford’s ranking is based on a composite citation index (c) that excludes self-citations and considers the researchers’ authorship position, with an emphasis on sole, first and last authorship. The same index including self-citations is provided for comparison. The c-scores have been calculated for the period 1996-2020 (career) and also for the single year 2020 (single year). The full database is available on Mendeley Data (Elsevier).
