GETTING AROUND BY BIKE

For your health, the planet and to save money, there is nothing better than to travel by bike. There are many bicycle paths for you to ride on.

If you don’t have a bike, several solutions exist:

  • Self-service bike rental 7 days a week, 24 hours a day: Take a bike from one of the 110 stations in La Rochelle and the surrounding area and put it back at another station for 50€/year (20€ if you have a Yélo subscription)
  • Long-term rental: for 50€ per year (under 26 years), Yelo offers you a bike with maintenance included
  • Bike parks are installed in the city to allow you to park your bike safely, free with a yélo subscription.

For scooters, racks are available on the three sites: on the Law, Political Science and Management site, the Humanities, Languages, Arts and Sciences site and the Sciences and Technologies site (a lock is required).

GETTING AROUND BY TER

As the train station is close to the campus, you can get to the University by TER. 2 lines serve La Rochelle:

  • L14 Poitiers-La Rochelle (Niort, Surgères, Aigrefeuille, La Jarrie…)

A smart card serves as a single medium for all the transport services provided by the Yélo network: credit and recharging of season tickets. It can be used to take buses, bicycles, boats, self-service electric vehicles and electric shuttles into the city center from park-and-ride facilities. To obtain your card, go to the Maison de la Mobilité (Place de Verdun) Monday to Friday, 7.30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6.30 p.m.

TRAVELLING BY BUS

For travel from outside the conurbation, you can use regional bus.

TO GET AROUND BY CAR

  • Carpooling

Use the Klaxit car-sharing application to commute to and from university! In order to develop sustainable mobility on its territory, the Agglomération de La Rochelle has entered into a partnership with Klaxit, a French company specialized in home-work carpooling. As part of this partnership, staff and students of La Rochelle University benefit from incentive rates for using the Klaxit application.

The official website of the Charente-Maritime region indicates the carpooling areas of the department.

  • Car-sharing

Carsharing cars are also for you if you want to get around occasionally and at a lower cost while keeping the benefits of a car.

  • Coming by car and park and ride

Parking lots (Greffières or Beaulieu) are also available to park your car from outside the agglomeration and then go quickly to the campus by bus (Illico 3 and 4).
Otherwise, take the direction of “Les Minimes”, the university site is located between the SNCF train station and the port of Les Minimes.
