Plan your trip abroad

Before leaving, make sure you know all about the country where you are going (insurance, accommodation, cost of living etc.)

Accommodation

Accommodation may be organised by the host university. If this is not the case, you will need to find a place to live when you arrive, without any help from the host university. A reservation is a legally binding commitment, and the rules of the halls of residence must be respected. You will be responsible for paying the rent (depending on the country, the rent can be requested in advance and / or with a deposit.)

Health

It is essential to update your vaccinations well before you leave. For advice about preventive medicine and treatment, consult your doctor or the Health Service of La Rochelle Université.

Visa

For destinations outside Europe, and after acceptance from the host university, a demand for a student visa must be made to the Embassy / Consulate of the country concerned (via the Internet) or from an official agency that issues visas. This application is in your name and subject to payment, and must be accompanied by the documents required by the host country.

Transport

Transportation is entirely the responsibility of the student. Tickets should be bought only when the host University has accepted your application and after obtaining a visa. La Rochelle Université declines any responsibility if the trip is cancelled for any reason (by the student or the airline), and if there are delays or modifications to the date of departure.

Insurance

Your stay in a foreign country is voluntary and under your entire responsibility. La Rochelle Université declines any responsibility for unforeseen expenses that may arise during your stay. Liability / repatriation and health insurance are mandatory.

Budget

The cost of studying abroad varies enormously from one country to another. Before departure, it is advisable to establish a provisional list of expenses and to find out as much as possible about the cost of living.
